Assoc. Prof. Bui Quoc Tinh is Director of the Institute of Computational Engineering (DTRICE) at Duy Tan University (DTU), Viet Nam, and formerly an Associate Professor at Tokyo Institute of Technology. His research spans computational mechanics, fracture/damage mechanics, computational biomechanics, algorithm development for engineering problems, AI applications in solid mechanics, and optimization of structures and composite materials. He earned the Dr. techn. (PhD) in Computational Mechanics from Vienna University of Technology (2009), an MSc in Mechanics of Constructions from the University of Liège (2006), and a BSc in Mathematics & Computer Science from VNU-HCMC (2002). Prof. Tinh has (co-)edited several Springer volumes, including Structural Health Monitoring and Engineering Structures (LNCE) and CIGOS 2021: Emerging Technologies and Applications for Green Infrastructure (LNCE), and serves on multiple editorial boards such as Applied Mathematical Modelling (Subject Editor), Thin-Walled Structures, Engineering Analysis with Boundary Elements, SN Applied Sciences, and Scientific Reports. His distinctions include the 2018 JACM Young Investigator Award and two JSPS fellowships (Postdoctoral; Pathway for Senior Scientists). He has authored 250+ ISI/Scopus papers with 14,000+ citations and an H-index ≈70 (Google Scholar). In this volume, Prof. Tinh will contribute the Introduction, drawing on his editorial experience and broad international collaborations to highlight emerging methods for resilient, low-carbon civil infrastructure.
